Pedestrian plaza at Fowler Square

Construction has begun on the Heart of Fort Greene, Fowler Square,to transform it into a Pedestrian plaza.  The city will be adding new plant life, and new granite along with  movable chairs and tables.  The corner of the plaza is being expanded into Fulton Street. The expansion will not end there though as the short block of South Elliott Place is also being transformed into a car-free, pedestrian only area.

Events: Brooklyn Bridge Park Summertime Movies

Schools almost out, the weather has been great, and  Summer will be here before you know it. It’s time to go outside and have fun.  The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy has just the remedy.  They will be running their Syfy movies with a view for the 13th season starting in the July in the Brooklyn Bridge park.  The schedule is as follows:

College makes its way to BK

Plans have been made for the empty MTA storage facility in downtown Brooklyn to be turned into a Center for Urban Science and Progress. The 370 Jay Street project is being overseen by one of New York’s most famous institutions, NYU. Guess everybody wants to come to Brooklyn.

Mayor Bloomberg noted that “over the next five years, 370 Jay Street will be transformed into a cutting-edge center for research and science that will give another huge boost to our city’s economy,”. This is under the assumption that the project will create 2,200 construction jobs and 900 permanent jobs and generate nearly 200 spin-off companies.
